Bruce Finlayson informed us about Life Leadership training – Our Rotary Club is sponsoring 9 local High School Seniors to attend the annual 6290 Rotary Conference for Youth Leadership Training. This 3 day conference is designed to Train 155 to 160 youths in all aspects of Leadership, to include community culture, values and Rotary principles based on the Four-Way Test and Service above Self.
The Scholarship cost was $1500.00 per student – paid by TC Rotary Club.

Steve Wade & President John distributed perfect attendance award pins to 47 Rotarians beginning with 1-year up to 43 years of perfect attendance. Donald Breadon was the longest member honored.

Al Bonney announced that next Sunday will be the “Jump-out-Plane” event. Our club; will have 3 or 4 Jumpers for this major fundraiser. We hope they return for our next meeting!

We will have greeters at the parking lot for those who drive themselves, golf cart transportation for those who may need it from the parking lot to dining hall, optional hayride and a guided hike after the meeting

The Bus will arrive at GOREC around 11:45 am and will leave GOREC at 1:30 pm to arrive back in town around 1:55 pm.

In May 2020 the Rotary Club of Traverse City will celebrate 100 years of service. To celebrate and commemorate our service to the community we are seeking project ideas from Rotary Club members for a signature, legacy project. With an investment of up to $1 Million from Rotary Charities, the project should reflect Rotary’s history of advancing the greater community good and embrace the future.
The deadline for submitting ideas is June 15th, 2018.The Legacy Task Force will review the ideas and make a final recommendation to the boards of the Rotary Club and Rotary Charities by October.
The following principles will be considered for selection:
It is a commemoration & celebration and is outside of the Rotary Charities grant process.
Has a lasting impact.
Positively impacts a large number of people at all ages.
Clearly named as a Rotary project (ie-Rotary Park, Rotary Square, etc).
Located within the greater Traverse City area.
Potentially provides opportunities for club service.
Could leverage other funding opportunities.
Not an endowment.
Not part of a current, larger campaign.

Note:On March 1, 2018, there was a joint meeting between the boards of Rotary Charities and Rotary Camps and Services. As an outcome of that meeting, there will be monthly updates on the activities of each board delivered to the club via the bulletin, and a verbal update at the following club meeting.
LEGACY GRANT REMINDER
In 2020, our Rotary Club will celebrate its 100th year of service to the community. We have made progress on our plan to celebrate this special anniversary. NEW GRANT CRITERIA APPROVED
On May 31, the Rotary Charities Board approved the 2018 grant criteria! Some of the categories are new, and in addition to some of the great things we’ve always funded, we will be supporting new, systems-based initiatives, too. ROTARY CHARITIES GETS A BRAND FACE LIFT For years, Rotary Charities has been evolving. The roles that we play in the community have changed. How we invest our resources has changed. We’ve adopted a systems based approach in everything that we do. While all of our work has evolved, the way that we engage with the community we serve, has not.
During our 2017 strategic planning process we heard from the community that they were confused about the role we intend to play, and anxious about whether or not their work will fit with us. We know we need to do a better job communicating with all of our stakeholders.
In an effort to better engage the people we serve, on May 31, the Charities board approved a new set of brand standards for Rotary Charities. We selected a logo, and brand tone/themes that we will start weaving into all of our public facing work. The logo is up on the screen, and the brand essence is as follows:
