President John opened the meeting with God Bless America and The Pledge of Allegiance.
Our President Elect Elect Homer Nye led our invocation.
Vern Gauthier led our singing with This Land is Your Land and You’re a Grand Old Flag.
Art Burkowski introduced visiting Rotarians and Guests.
This week’s Students of the Week hail from Northwestern Michigan College – Go Hawk Owls!
Denny Winn is a 4th year accounting student through Ferris State University and will be a first-generation college graduate. Denny also serves on many student advocacy groups such as International Club and NMC Voices. Megan Burger is earning her cultural anthropology degree through Grand Valley State University. She, like Denny, serves on many student advocacy groups and is an RA in the dorms on campus.
Announcements:
Mike Meinderstma and Allison Beers had to arm wrestle to see who would introduce new Rotarian Max Anderson. Allison won! (That’s who I had my money on!) Max grew up in Suttons Bay, is an Eagle Scout, attended NMC and then earned his civil engineering degree from Western Michigan University. He has worked in the banking industry before moving onto his most famous role yet. Max serves as the Executive Director of the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce (and is doing a bang-up job!) For fun Max plays the guitar in a group called “the Drift” and has been recruited for the Rotary Show Chorus. Max is married to Caitlin and has an adorable daughter Evelyn. Welcome Max! We expect great things from you!!
Kat Paye announced that tickets for the Rotary Show go on sale today. A whopping 42 tickets were sold at today’s meeting alone! The ticket committee is ON FIRE! There is a buy one, get one free offer available on
www.UpNorthLive.com for the Wednesday show, April 25. But only 100 of those deals are available so get them while they’re hot!
On the heels of ticket sales is ad sales. Trevor Tkach reported that ads are trickling and encourages EVERYONE to reach out to a new business and ask them to be apart of the show by throwing down some money for an ad – ya know ‘cuz all the cool kids are doing it!
Speaking of what all the cool kids are doing, Nick Beadleston announced that on June 3, Rotarians will be taking a flying leap out an airplane for Rotary in the crusade against polio! If you’ve ever dreamed of skydiving but figured your health insurance deductible was too high to take the risk – here’s your chance to throw caution to the wind! (No pun intended….. OK, it was!!) More details to follow upon signing the waiver form. 😊
Mark Eckhoff announced that the committee chairs for the Rotary Show will be quickly after this meeting by the dessert table. I think that’s just an excuse for Mark to snag another dessert!
Bob Stow announced that last night was the first rehearsal for the Mighty Rotary Chorus! If you missed it, don’t fret. There’s time to join the fun and the shenanigans. The chorus is running a little low on men. (Wait!! Isn’t this club 75% men!?) Rehearsals are Monday and Thursday evenings at First Congregational Church. Be there by 7 pm – I think that’s when it starts!
$49 from the 50/50 went to past president Ken Osborne!

www.UpNorthLive.com The characters Elle and Paulette performed a beautifully inspiring and amusing song entitled “Ireland”. Following was the song “Legally Blonde” performed by Elle and Emmett.
As always, our students from TC West did an outstanding job. The show looks to be entertaining, and funny and showcases the exquisite talent of our high school students. Congratulations to the cast and orchestra on an amazing performance.
