Dave Thomas our District Governor and Petoskey Rotary Member gave an inspiring discussion about how to make Rotary a successful ‘automobile’. Dave has traveled all over the country for work, has a loving family and has many admirable accomplishments, including his service as a sergeant in the Marines.
The discussion started with everything we do is a continuum and there are 3 overarching areas that make a club successful while fulfilling the lives of the Rotarians involved and all of which it affects. The three things Dave said that make a club successful were that success comes from structure and good leadership, a board that supports a club and the rotary foundation.
All of these were incorporated into the making of the automobile of the club. This highlighted things like board support, strong membership, keeping marketing a ‘classy chassie’, youth engagement, unique design, and engineering amongst other things to make a pretty cool automobile. With the automobile constructed, it increases the opportunity and ability of the club to deliver all avenues of service.
Dave mentioned that continued club engagement and honing in on the world impact will continue to increase the success of Rotary. He highlighted the breadth of membership in Traverse City and the kind individuals involved, and that it is a special place to be “Rotary: just add water- instant family”.
Upon Closing, Dave presented Traverse City Rotary Club with the 100-year member certificate.
