Meeting recap - November 15th

  • Wendy Irvin shared her Thoughts of Gratitude and Reflection but mostly thankfulness for family.  
  • Art Bukowski sparked up some fun Happy Bucks. 
  • Our friendly Sunrise Rotarian was introduced by Mark Eckhoff and Alex Wood then introduced the Outstanding Students and their Families.
  • Congratulations to Alica Revett and Seville Tarrant as our Outstanding Students of the week from St. Francis. We heard some highlights of their schooling and hopes for the future.
  • The Nominating committee's representative Paul LaPorte announced the slate of candidates for 3 club officers and the president-elect. 
    • Ruth BlickMichael Caruso, Paul Heidbreder, Wendy Irvin, and Linda Racine are up for the 3 club officers starting in 2023. 
    • Our Nominee for President-Elect is Marsha Minervini. 
  • Please sign up to Ring Bells for the Salvation Army and give back to our community. Haider Kazim shared pleasant experiences while ringing with a fellow Rotarian. Use NOON ROTARY as your group code. 
  • Susan Kraus announced details for the upcoming Holiday Soiree and urged everyone to RSVP for a merry time. She also shared an incredible opportunity that the World Community Service committee has planned for Quatamaula in Feb 2023. Details below.  
  • Dale Chilcote will be checking with members before club meetings to see which committee they are already in or would like to be in. 
  • Dan Rickard truly has a passion for helping with Christmas baskets every year. Please contact Dale Chilcote, Dan Rickard, and Steve Wade if you'd like to help shop.
  • Dan Buron introduced Mayor Richard Lewis, Rev. Derek Quinn, and Safe Harbor Board member Christopher Ellalasingham to talk about the amazing collaboration they have found themselves in which is now able to provide warmth and nutrition to homeless persons in our community. 
  • Our fill-in President, President-Elect John Hall reminded everyone that we need a quorum at next week's meeting and then he dinged the bell to adjourn. 

 

Featured Item - Match your Charitable Donation by Dec 1st

 
The deadline is coming up for the Rotary club to take advantage of matching funds from the Rotary Endowment. If you need to know if you have reached your match, please contact the Club Administrator
 
Through the Rotary Endowment at the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, individual Rotarians may request up to $250 to match their donations to charitable organizations, dollar for dollar. 
 
The deadline to request these funds is coming up on December 1, 2022. Please encourage fellow Rotarians to take this opportunity to leverage the philanthropic power of the Rotary Endowment! Request forms can be found here.

Social and Volunteer Opportunities 

  • It's the Holiday season which means our Club is putting together Christmas Baskets for families in our community and we need your help. Any amount you'd like to donate will help us bring smiles to kids and their parent's faces this winter.
    • There will be envelopes on the tables at our meetings in which you can donate cash, check, or a charge to your account. 
    • If you haven't used your match for a charitable donation yet, this is the perfect opportunity to fully utilize it. Be sure to make the check out to Camps & Services and get the form back by Dec 1st.
 
  • Our Club Board meetings are always open for members to attend. The next one will be at 5:00 pm on November 28th. We meet at the Discovery Center at 13170 S W Bay Shore Dr. 
 
  • Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army: Sign-up online at registertoring.com
    • Click on “I’m Ringing With A Group” button.
    • In “Group Code” type “Noon Rotary” and click the “Submit” button.
    • The “Available Shifts” will show up. Select your shift.
    • NOTE: In order to reserve your shift, you will need to create your account if you don’t already have one. Creating your account is easy and FREE.
    • Once you create your account, you will arrive at the “Summary of Shifts” page. Press “Continue” to finish registering for your shift.

  • The World Community Service Committee is excited to announce this opportunity to join a one-week educational tour in Guatemala to get a close look at Planting Seeds educational and community programs. Our Club has been supporting Planting Seeds since 2020, and as we learned during the club presentation in June they are doing amazing work!

  • We are looking for 10 Rotarians who would like to rotate and form a Rotary Curling Team for the League set to start in mid-January. Please contact Marlene Bevan to join the curling crew!
