Will be held at the Park Place Hotel on August 16th.  
The program will be a Rotary Club Assembly which will allow members to share and discuss the future plans and goals of the Club. Please start thinking about the following questions.

Meeting recap - August 9th

  • The meeting was held at the Delamar Hotel.
  • Max Anderson read the poem  The Song of Our Flag by Wilber Nesbit.
  • Sid Lammers shared his Thoughts of Gratitude and Reflection. 
  • Doug Meteyer introduced two Visiting Rotarians, Debbie and Rick Hill.
  • Lisa Brady led us in a very happy round of Happy Bucks.
  • Susan Kraus updated the club on the Power Island picnic held on Aug 9th.
  • Jeff Hickman told us the Charities Board is accepting applications, the time commitment is 5-15 hrs monthly. 
  • Chris DeGood gave a Camps and Services update on the Discovery Pier remodeling funds. Only $300k is still needed after the $1.8 million raised. 
  • Al Bonney explained that Polio still needs support to get to ZERO cases. 
  • The 50/50 was $57 and won by Paul LaPorte.
  • Matt MacDonough introduced Brain Beauchamp and Katie Ressl to talk about TART Trails and the wonderful Boardman Lake Loop trail. 
  • Don Breadon led members in The Four Way Test.

Volunteer & Social Opportunities

A handful more volunteers are needed for the Michigan vs Michigan State Scholarship Fundraising event on Aug 19-20th.  
  • Shifts are 2 hours, races start at noon on the 20th
  • One hour of training on Friday the 19th with pizza and beer. 
  • The goal is to raise enough to give away 6 scholarships. 
  • Please contact Ross Childs to sign up for a shift. 
Be part of funding good work in our region and volunteer for Rotary Charities' next grant review cycle
  • Grant Applications are due September 1st
  • Volunteer Reviewers receive materials in early October
  • Participate in ~2hr Review Meeting in Early Oct - Early Nov 
  • Volunteer Reviewers give a summary at the Board Meeting on Dec 6th

Applications are available HERE for the Charities Board and the Camps & Services Board of Trustees. They can be turned into Stacey Foster by Sept 6th. 

Featured Item - Exchange Student Arrivals

Our inbound students are Noe of France, Saki of Japan, Ida of Denmark, and Olivia of Argentina. We want to be at the airport to greet them with open arms.

  • Noe's arrival time is August 13th at 12:18 am 
  • Saki's arrival time is August 25th at 3:30 pm
  • Ida's arrival time is August 27th at 1:00 pm
  • Olivia's arrival time is September 1st at 4:08 pm
Carla Weaver still needs host families and counselors for the exchange students. Please contact Carla Weaver to host a student.
