District Raffle
The District 6290 Rotary Raffle is happening, folks. Our club's goal is to sell 250 or more tickets to be eligible for the chance of winning $5,000 for our club to invest in a local community project.
The cost of a ticket is $20.00. Individual prize winners (like the normal 50/50 drawing) are as follows: First Place $5,000, Second-Sixth Prize $1,000 each, providing the Raffle sells 1200 tickets in total throughout the district. Checks can be made payable to Rotary District 6290. You can also pay cash or charge your ticket purchase to your club account.
Brochures with all the raffle details will be available each week at lunch if you want more information. Our goal is to have each member purchase one or more tickets. This is not closed to just Rotarians, ask your friends if they would be interested in purchasing a ticket. We will be selling tickets at our Tuesday meetings or you can contact Roy Pentilla at erpentilla@aol.com. The raffle ends on February 29th.
The Club currently has 249 members and 114 attended this meeting.
Single parenthood is difficult. Planned or unplanned --single parents need resources and support that can help them become invested parents and contributing members of the community. When single parenthood happens unexpectedly--whether by death, divorce, or escape from an abusive situation--it can take years for a parent to get back on their feet.
Jennifer Finnegan Pool experienced this first-hand, and for years she was lost, without a roadmap to help her out of a crisis and become fully engaged in life.
When Jennifer was reminded of her calling to serve others, she began to look outside of her own needs and started putting together what would soon become Single Moms Ministry or Single MOMMS –a resource for supporting single moms in the Grand Traverse area.
When crisis hits, Jennifer said, single parents can turn to Single MOMMS for programs that can help them acquire a healthy sense of self-awareness, create a wide base of community support, become invested in parenting, strive for economic wellness, and recognize themselves as a contributing member of society.
Created by single moms, for single moms, the nonprofit offers four main programs:
Event nights, which are designed to provide a safe, relaxed place where moms can connect with Single MOMM staff and other moms;
reVive, a twelve-week program that transforms single moms and gives them a clearer purpose and identity;
No More Crazy, which helps moms become organized when managing legal needs.
And, Mentoring, which allows moms to have someone in their corner helping them get back on their feet.
How can Rotarians help Single MOMMS?
1 – They’re always always looking for volunteers at event nights, as facilitators, on the board, or other areas.
2 – You can support the nonprofit’s work financially through donations or through sponsorships.
3 – You can honor the single mom in your own life!
