Meeting Recap - May 30th

  • Our thoughts of gratitude and reflection were shared by Ramona Pleva in the form of a cup. The cup of stuff inside you at a given moment, may be bumped and forced out beyond the mask of yourself. So what is that stuff? Is it anger, frustration, or could it be joy, gratitude, or love for others? Let your cup be full of affirmations and thankfulness, so when bumped those are shared instead.

  • Al Bonney announced another wild fundraiser put on to fight Polio by his District Governor classmate. They started planning in 2020 but now their trek around the world has set off. More details are below. Al was also ready for Happy Bucks which shared joyful news of new grandbabies, time outside either sailing or camping, and family weddings. Tawny Hammond was happy to share a code for club members to take a cruise on the Discovery: input AC10 online.

  • Our World Community Service committee has been very active and involved in Guatemala. John Cox and Linda Racine gave a quick recap of their time there with John's doctor group helping over 350 patients in two days within a jungle village. They also had their rotary hats on installing water filters, energy efficient stoves, and meeting with village leaders and healers to hear their exact needs so we can best fill them moving forward.

  • Stephanie Rustem shared the Discover Fishing event at the Pier on June 10th to learn about inland seas and practical fishing knowledge. The pier's fishing area is finally complete in the transformation project. She will need some help, it's a great time for the kids and volunteers.

  • Susan Kraus informed of the upcoming events with a social at Left Foot Charley on the second Tuesday and then a golf outing that will only cost $50. More details will be in your email.

  • Marsha Smith introduced our speaker Joe Sanok, to talk about how we work in the world. Currently, we are still on the same model as the industrial age with the 40hr work week chosen by Henry Ford, but this isn't as productive or healthy for most people. Joe is a consultant who works with teams to find out what works best for their given team. He wrote the book Thursday is the New Friday. His email is joe@practiceofthepractice

  • The winner of 50/50 was Marsha Smith who took home $34.

Featured Item - Flight to End Polio

The Wheels of Hope committee and Al Bonney wanted you to know the current actions at work in the fight to end polio. John Ockenfels, one of the pilots of the Fight to End Polio, was a District Governor classmate of Al Bonney's. He and his partner in this adventure, Peter Tehan, also a Rotarian, had planned to begin the flight in the spring of 2020. Naturally, you know what happened to those plans!  Well, the project is not just still alive, it has begun.

Have a look at this website. It is an impressive undertaking. They left their homes in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on May 5 this year and are now in Eastern Europe, flying west to east.
https://www.flighttoendpolio.com/
With the end of the current Rotary year just around the corner, this might be a great platform for all of us to come on board and support these two enterprising Rotarians. They are, by the way, totally underwriting the cost of the project out of their own pockets!

They have created a fun, informative, and impressive website. Have a look and see if you don’t agree that this is a worthy project to support.
