FAVORITE SONGS – At my age, oldies – real oldies, ancient oldies! I like all kinds of music, except country and rap.
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF NO ONE IN THE CLUB LIKELY KNOWS – I grew up on an Illinois farm. For five years, I attended a rural one-room school – no electricity or indoor plumbing. All the kids drank from a single tin cup that hung on the outside well pump. I still own some Illinois farm land and stay tuned in to that scene.
LIFE ROLE MODELS – My dad, a farmer, a self-made man. My mother, a teacher – one-room schools, then high school English and Latin. (Shouldn’t Latin be a required subject?)
MOST SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT – Marrying my wonderful wife Pat in 1957; celebrating 58 wedding anniversaries so far.
PROUDEST MOMENTS – My children and grandchildren have provided many.
FUNNIEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU – My lips are sealed.
SECRET AMBITION – To be a good golfer instead of a lousy one.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE – Sorry to brag about my family, but this is my chance! Pat and I and our three children and their spouses are blessed with 16 university degrees. Fourteen are from Big Ten schools – Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Illinois. I loved being in the Marching Illini (clarinet). In those days, before air travel became ubiquitous, the band travelled by special train. One good memory: Marching down Pennsylvania Avenue in 1957 at President Eisenhower’s second inaugural.
