IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?
Posted by Phil Murphy
Our very own Dr. Phil…Phil Ellis introduced Laverna Witkop of the Ford Insurance Agency who spoke of the many wonders of Medicare today. It’s a jungle out there folks and not for the faint of heart. The only things we were missing was the steamy heat and machetes to hack our way through the myriad offerings displayed before us.
Fortunately, Ms Witkop, who has been tracking the wild beast known as Medicare and his recently arrived little brother Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act), and was able to shortcut the entire affair. That’s not to say the way through is any more fathomable, but Witkop can shine the light on Medicare Parts A, B and D – Whatever happened to Part C? – Prescription coverage, advantage coverage, gap coverage, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera….
The important thing is to make sure one knows the open enrollments for each of the various plans – they are different for Medicare (October – December) and Obamacare (November through January).
Miss them and there’ll be *&$@! To pay…well a fine at the least and it really screws up everything else and it may require forfeiture of body parts…kidding. However, there is a formidable amount of red tape involved with all aspects – as if getting older isn’t bad enough – of the process.
The upshot? If you are unsure how to deal with the complexities, make sure and speak with a benefits specialist at your company or your agent as an individual policyholder. Finally, we all need and are now required by law to have healthcare insurance no matter how we get it. Despite any difficulties we may encounter with the process, it a necessary evil/good in our world today. The review the meetings PowerPoint please click here.
